Professional Experiences
Student Teaching- Apple Creek Elementary School Spring of 2016
During the spring of 2016 I had the opportunity to student teach a 5th grade class at Apple Creek Elementary school. My duties there included planning engaging lesson plans in Math, Science, Social studies and Language Arts. I was also asked to teach the gym class. During my time at Apple Creek I learned what it meant to be a family and how important it is to be as flexible as possible.
Practicum Experience Sterling Elementary school, and Pioneer Elementary school.
During my time out at Sterling Elementary school I learned how difficult it can be to manage two grade levels at once. But with time and patience anything is possible. It is really important to have perfect time management skills while working in smaller schools. At Pioneer I had the opportunity to attend a couple of IEP's and see how those are managed and ran. I had the opportunity at both of these school to create engaging lessons that kept the students on their toes and excited for learning.
Youth Mentor at Pride Inc-Fall of 2014- Spring 0f 2015
Worked with youth who were at risk, these students had disabilities and family issues. I worked one on one with these students, helping them become successful members of their community. Our duties included helping them with their homework, keeping them entertained after school while their parents were working, as well as keeping an open ear for them to talk to.
Hit Inc- Spring of 2013- Current
I support individuals with disabilities. Each individual has a specific care plan that is to be followed to ensure they live the best possible life. My duties include, ensuring quality care, passing medications daily, be a positive role model that displays the best characteristics of a citizen, help individuals manage their money, and support the individuals in completing their life goals.
Special Olympics-January 2014-Current
During my time working at Hit inc and Pride I was offered the opportunity to work with individuals at the special olympic games. I helped to ensure that individuals attended all of their events and got there in a timely manner. I also ensure that the individuals received their medications during the duration of the olympic games.
First Presbyterian Child Care- Spring of 2015
I care for children varying from ages 18 months to 4 years old. My duties include, Feeding, Caring, and implementing the best practices life style while caring for the children. In the 4 year old room, I had the opportunity to implement classroom management skills that have helped the children grow and become aware of how important it is to pay attention to the adult in charge. The most rewarding aspect of this job is having the opportunity to monitor a students growth in life.
Volunteer Experience.
Teachers Education Association- Spring of 2015
The Teacher Education Association exposed me to the importance of education meetings that are often held at the capital. We cooperated as a group once a month to address the issues in education and how to address them, we created gifts for the educators who offered their time to help educate the future teachers of America. This opportunity helped me grow as a professional teacher. It showed me the importance of being actively engaged as a teacher in your community.
Avid Tutor-Fall of 2015
During my time as an Avid tutor I worked with 6th graders at Wachter Middle School. I had the opportunity to tutor students who are have not been exposed to college readiness skills. Our job as an avid tutor is to ensure that the students take proper notes in their classes, finish their homework that they have in those classes, stay organized, and are exposed to several colleges around the United States. This program really ensures that students are set up to succeed in college and life.
Camp Recreation- Summer of 2014
I Helped set up activities for a camp geared for individuals with disabilities. Also helped tear down the camp at the end of the week. Duties included helping individuals get from activity to activity, shower and take medications at the end of the night. Each individual had their unique care plans that were to be followed.
Youth convention- Summer of 2010
I was a youth mentor guide for a convention in 2009. My duties included ensuring that the youth I was with attended the required classes during the convention, led the group from the hotel to were the convention was being held.
